Val Thorens tourist office has produced a video, in which Director Gregory Guzzo and Press Officer Bérengère Teillard talk about the new developments for winter 2018-2019.
What's new in Val Thorens for 2018-19: on the snow
Two new pistes
There's to be a new blue run (called Cime: total length 3.2km., vertical drop 570m.) down from the Cime de Caron.
On one hand, this will enable intermediate skiers and snowboarders to go up to the best viewpoint in Val Thorens and make their own way down rather than taking the cable car. On the other hand, arguably it is no bad thing to have one sector just for experts; and on sunny days, the queue for the Caron is long enough already.
A new black run is to be created in the Boismint sector. It will be called Armoise (meaning mugwort, an aromatic plant of the genus Artemisia, which grows at this location).
Ski touring: 4 New itineraries
After the inauguration of La Camille run last year, the ski touring offer is once again expanding with 4 new itineraries. All you have to do is choose between climbing opposite Péclet’s majestic aiguilles or La Cime Caron for a complete change of scenery that lets you rediscover the Val Thorens ski area. (Ski directly back to the resort) On offer: 2 to 6-kilometre long routes that let you work your way upwards, as a gentle introduction to ski touring.
Improved snow-making
A 450,000€ investment has been dedicated this year to overhauling the artificial snow network: replacing snowmakers and doubling the amount of equipment in certain zones, as well as ongoing maintenance work to guarantee exceptional snowsports conditions. 440 snowmakers and 13 machine rooms now cover the Val Thorens ski area, and 3 piste bashers boast hybrid engines to reduce their environmental impact.

More zip lines
SETAM are installing another double zip-line in Val Thorens. The zip line will be accessible by skis and by foot at the top of the Moutiere chairlift and ends in the heart of the resort, in Place Caron. The new feature will have total length of 1600m and will be 65m above ground. It will be able to take up to 60 people per hour. There is currently The Tyrolienne at the top of the B.
